Gratitude - Flowers

I may have done one already on flowers but if I did I think they're worth doing again.  The beautiful ornaments of our world, thanks to supermarkets we can now enjoy them year round.  But in the spring, summer and fall we can luxuriate in their glory.  I'm thankful for their many splendored beauty.  Diane

Sweet Peas

Clutching and grabbing at everything they can get their tendrils on, their beauty so exquisite that it almost breaks your heart.  Sweet peas are such old fashioned flowers, they remind us of our grandmothers and lace and fans and ice cubes and pretty glass vases.                      Diane

Party Pansies

Aren't these just the prettiest pansies??  Brenda sent me some money for my birthday and of course I headed straight to the garden center to buy something I just love.  These pansies won my heart.  They're called ruffled pansies but I think they're party pansies - they're just like ladies dressed up in ruffled party dresses!  Diane

Washed Clean

It was a rainy day here and when the sun came out it was dazzling. These flax flowers are still dripping from their bath. Diane

New Postage Stamps

Have you seen the new Love stamps at the post office? Purple pansies, it looks like it's from that old Hallmark wheelbarrow full of pansy card. They're just enchanting. Diane

I'll Be With You....

.....in apple blossom time, I'll be with you to change your name to mine. Remember that beautiful old song by the Andrews Sisters?My heart hums it as everything is bursting with blooms.
This is our apple tree in one of the side yards. Leonard brought it home as a little twig when they were having Trees for Trash at the city dump one time. It's really spectacular this year. Diane

They're Here

The first flowers of the year appeared today. Two little snow crocus poked their faces up through the lawn. What a glorious sight!

Not far from where they grew a bright sunny dandelion bloomed near the foundation of the house.

It's so wonderful to see some flowers!

Looking for Color

No, this isn't my garden - it isn't even now. I've started to see green grass coming up on the creek bank and there's some popping through in our back yard next to the house. But THIS is what I want to see, lush flowers and green, green. I shouldn't get impatient, it will be here in good time. These are in my neighbor's yard, that guy can make anything grow. Diane

Maybe they do this where you live, too.

The Cancer Survivors take orders earlier in the year for daffodils. When it's the worst around here, when all the snow is disappearing and all of last year's half-rotten leaves are showing themselves, all of the dirt that has accumulated makes everything look dingy and gray, someone knocks on your door and delivers your daffodils. If you go to the bank all of the cashiers have daffodils at their windows, the bookstore has big bouquets of daffodils, they're on the desks at the hospital. Bright yellow is everywhere! Ours came yesterday and I always have them deliver a bunch to Mother in the nursing home.

I love to put the daffodils in this gorgeous vase which just fits them perfectly.

Flowers Make People More Helpful (?)

Well, I want to be more helpful so I think that's a good reason to buy them.

They always make me feel good. I hope you're fortunate as I am to have a grocery store near that has flowers. Once in a while you can splurge and buy some just for the joy of it. Diane

The Joy of Flowers

The flowers are starting to look a little shopworn and tired. It doesn't help that the lawn needs mowed or that the cottonwood drops leaves 12 months out of the year. Still, it's a joy to walk out into the garden and see who's blooming, who needs to be staked up and just enjoy God's beautiful flowers. The petunias have outdone themselves this year. My Green Envy zinnias are so pretty but the color is hard to capture with the camera. The stargazer lilies are gone now but what a show while they were here. Right now the phlox are blooming and the sunflowers, the phlox just smells like summer to me.

Flowers are so healing and peaceful. Maybe that's why we send flowers to people in the hospital, because they heal the soul with their cheerful message of love.
