There's Something About Rocks

Rocks have always been a passion of mine - looking down you never know what you're going to see.  As a child our dad would get upset with me because every time I got out of the car in the mountains I'd fill my pockets up with rocks.  I've toned it down some, now I just look for heart-shaped, round, egg-shaped, and wish-rocks.  The wish rocks I learned about  in Alaska, they're the ones with on a line entirely through them.  Don't you just want to pick up one of those white ones and hold it in your hand?                    Diane

Life's Rough

His grandpa had just told he he couldn't eat rocks

This is a picture of my great grandson a year ago.  I just ran across it and it made me laugh.  It was captioned by my daughter.  Diane

More Rocks

I found out that there are other bloggers out there who collect different kinds of rocks so I guess I can come out of the closet and tell you about mine. The ones above are little heart shaped (sort of) which I have mainly picked up when I'm walking with Rascal. The little one on the bottom is metal and was a gift from one of my daughters.
These sea rocks came from my trip to Alaska and I brought them home in my suitcase. There's a little piece of driftwood there, too. The one with rings Amanda found and gave to me as she told me this is a wish rock. Now I look for wish rocks but the ones around here aren't round and smooth like that.
For many years I've collected round rocks. My neighbor was so taken with the idea that he and his wife have brought me round rocks from several trips they've taken.
I don't know why we pick up rocks, I really don't, it just satisfies the need to hunt and gather or something like that. Diane

Rocky

My little rock garden peeks out from under the snow. Right now it's thawing???? but I don't think that will last. I'm building the rock garden from souveniers from many trips to the mountains or somewhere else. Long after the trip is forgotten the rock is there to remind me of a trip which I still can't remember. Remember the miniseries Centennial? "Only the rocks live forever." Diane
