How I Got Here

My computer training was Heinz 57.  A little bit here, a little bit there, talking to everybody I considered way smarter than I on the computer.  Asking them questions, pestering them.  And I must say I never ran into anyone! who was impatient or acted like I was dumb.  In 1990 I went to work for a short time for an insurance company.  I was told that I'd be using a computer, I was paralyzed with fear.  The woman who I worked for was very patient and helped me along.  I remember the thrill I got when I hit enter and it did!! I felt like the smartest person in the world. Later I went to work for the Episcopal Church and they were still using the DOS shell and I thought I was going to pull my hair out.  Even at that we set up a new program and I entered the entire membership and learned to make it work for me.  Leonard and I got a computer and were using a program called Aladdin which was actually an early attempt into what was to be the Internet.  It's been bumpy but it's been fun to learn in my own hit and miss way.  I have notes some of you have sent me to help me get through a hairy problem.  I'd be really interested to know about how you got here.  Did you take lessons?  learn it in school?                   Diane

In Just A Few Short Years

One of my daughters and I were talking the other day about when we were new to the computer and how it was then - DOS shell, early AOL, and taking forever for a picture to come up on the monitor.  It cost me $1.00 every time I went online because there was no local server and we had to go to Billings, Montana for one.  I was working at a church in the early 1990's and had to tell DOS shell every command to get anywhere in the computer, I must have called the smarter person who knew those things 10 times a day! That's really funny now but when you realize that it's only been a few short years that we've become where we are today with technology.  It's a wild and wonderful race and it's hard telling where we're going!  One thing I know for sure - I'm so glad that we all got in the same rocket on the trip.   Diane

We took a little drive in the country this afternoon and God is starting to color in between the lines. The colors and the sky were so beautiful. Diane

Still Stumbling Along

Today as I worked trying to get my blog figured out this Eurasian Collared Dove perched on the neighbors roof and watched me. It cocked it's head, looked me in the eye, just couldn't figure this out either.

I still don't have it, as you can see. I think the HTML got messed up so I reverted the template and ended up with this. Then when I try to customize it they want me to pick a new template but then the blog layout is a mess. I'm wondering if I should just start a new blog but I hate to lose the history and connections. Maybe I already have. I don't know.

You really don't realize how important your blog is until it won't work right.

I know I'll get it worked out and I appreciate you bearing with me.


One good thing - when you get into a mess you sure learn or unlearn a lot of stuff, don't you. Diane

A Voice From the Wilderness

In case you've missed my sparse blogs lately or I haven't commented on yours I wanted you to know that my computer's at the store being fixed. I've been trying to hit or miss on my husband's but his has the Vista operating system and it's so touchy I hate to mess with it. I think I'm getting mine back tomorrow and I can't wait. It's so much a part of my day to pop into my art room, jump on the computer, look something up, check the e-mail. Now I wonder aimlessly around like I've lost my best friend. Actually I have - all of you. And my pictures sit in the camera waiting for that wonderful day they can join the other 6000 in zoombrowser . Life will get better. God bless you, Diane
