Helen had died before we moved next door to Mr. Jackson. He always talked about her so fondly, I wish I had known her. It wasn't until many years later, after his death, I realized that I had had a brush with her, I just hadn't put it all together.
Many years before, when Cathy, my oldest child was just eensy I went to a rummage sale at the Methodist Church. I was carrying her in my arms and it was kind of difficult to look through things while I awkwardly held her. A black lady was sitting near the cash table and called to me "You just bring that little chile over here and I'll take care of her while you shop." I handed Cathy to her and she just snuggled right down in that lady's ample bosom. The lady was cuddling her and talking to her and making her smile and I had my arms free to shop. Years later, I realized that that had been Helen. Oh, how I wish I would have sat down next to her and talked forever. Diane

Oh how special that you had that moment with Helen. You may not have had time to chat with her,but that special memory will stay with you forever.
Lovely that your paths crossed, even if you didn't know it until years later.
Oh what a wonderful meeting....
How neat, Diane... Glad you met her --even if you didn't know her at the time... Thanks for sharing such a great story.
Hugs,
Betsy
Angels unaware...don't you love those God things that tie us all together?
What a special moment Diane, I loved this story. Thank-you for sharing it with us.
It's wonderful that you were able to carry this memory with you and then realize it was attached to someone very special.
I saw on the news today about the police officer in San Diego who gave money to a young boy in a McDonald's and then got in his patrol car and was shot just minutes later. A special man served our country and lived through Iraq and Afghanistan, came back to serve and protect the public and then his life was taken in his own country. He gave freely right up until the end; just as I am sure Helen and Mr. Jackson did.
Have a blessed day. Tammy
Rats! I wish you would have known her! love you, bean
