I Had Angels

Here's something that I wonder about sometimes.  Being a child in the 40s was so much different than being a child now.  Maybe not better, maybe not worse, just a lot different.  My dad had just come home from the war, I didn't know who he was, just an intruder.  That kind of start made a complete difference in his and my relationship forever, always at arm's length.  I suppose he felt that I was an intruder, too, because he hardly knew me.  I don't think there was much as far as child protection agencies then, people just turned the other way if a child was severely punished.  I had angels in my life though, God's angels and my grandma and grandpa.  Now I see children being the center of the universe and everything is about the child and "put children first!".  And I wonder how it could have shifted so drastically.   Diane

Seems to me that men used to not be as involved with their children,as they are now.Times certainly have changed.I for one, love to see Daddys taking care of their little ones.

Times have changed, indeed. I believe, however, that child protection laws aside, some children still have it hard. Thank heavens for angels.

Times have changed, but I'm not sure it's for the BEST. Kids are more spoiled these days... Everything is about THEM and their needs... Of course, they are getting that from their parents... We are living in a me-me-me generation. I think it's kinda sad...

I'm not sure we need to go back to the days when we were kids. BUT--we grew up with respect, appreciation, and hard work... Today's kids need more of that ---in my opinion...

Sorry--didn't mean to get on my high horse... ha
Hugs,
Betsy

I don't know... I think part of it was that the focus was just so much more on surviving then, and so less focus was on "what the kids need?" Now, there is too much focus on the kids and you see "kids" who are in their mid to late 20's living at home and unsure what to do with their lives. It's odd, isn't it?

Interesting thoughts...I do believe that we are a child-centered society.
