Valentine Cake

Picky, picky, picky. I decided I wanted a little pink cake for my little cake stand. It's not full size, just a cute little size. So this a.m. I was at Walmart and they had some for $5.00. BUT...They had multicolored sprinkles on them - not what I wanted. So I came home and made a chocolate pan cake and cut circles out and saved the trimmings for other desserts. After making a glaze and putting it on the sides I put blackberry jam between the layers and strawberry icing on it. It took me about 45 minutes to ice it. (Now I know why I make cakes in the rectangular pans!) You never want to read Martha Stewart's magazine just before you attempt something like this! I opted against making handmade roses. I could have just bought the Walmart version and scraped off the crayon color hearts and saved myself a lot of trouble. My husband was delighted, though, that I made him a cake. Diane

Beautiful Diane. I bet Walmart's cake didn't have blackberry jam for a filling. Blackberries and strawberry icing......my mouth is starting to water already.
