The Green Crayon Costume or How to Be a Very Bad Mother
When Amanda (Bean) was 4 or 5 I decided to create a costume for her that would look like a green crayon. Brilliant huh! I thought I was. I made the body part out of a piece of poster board and wrote the crayon stuff on it in black. I made her a little pointed hat out of more poster board and tied it under her chin. She wore black tights (her and tights are another story!) and little black shoes. It was a wonderful idea if I do say so myself.
It wasn't! shortly after beginning her trek around the neighborhood with her sisters they brought her home in tears. With the stiff poster board she couldn't get up and down stairs and she had to take tiny little steps or she would pull herself down!! She was very disappointed and mad. She still doesn't think it was a good idea! Diane

Ah well, we have always suffered for beauty.....and for Hallowe'en costumes!
LOL!! Great story! Like the year my daughter wanted to be a T-Rex (Jurassic Park had just come out) and she made this elaborate head with teeth and all and then as she trick or treated, she realized she couldn't see and she keep running into tree limbs...LOL Her poor Daddy had a devil of a night rescuing her. :) Kit
Especially when C-A-N-D-Y was at stake. I was/am such a candy zombie and that @#%&* costume definitely stopped me from accessing candy from homes with steps. That memory will always be with me.
It was an ingenious costume - simple and inexpensive. You tried didn't you? :)
love you, Bean
Love this story!
Ha-ha! Well, at least she has a good story to tell. We always had handmade costumes growing up. Never went to the store and bought anything like they do these days. :) Hope your day is a good one. Tammy
