A couple weeks ago I cut my sunflowers. It took me quite a while. I cut them, leaving a short stem on each and pulled the heavy stems up and drug to the alley to take to the recycling green bins. Now what to do with them. If I hang them in the chicken house mice would have a nice fat winter. If I put them in my cottage they'll make a mess. What to do, what to do. I came in and got on the computer. I typed in....how to store sunflowers to use as bird seed.........The answer....Leave them on the stems where they grew!!! Hmmmm. Maybe next year. In the meantime I have giant sunflower heads I
still don't know what to do with. Diane
Oh My Gosh.... I can't help you---but you will know what to do next year... I'm sure you will find a place for the giant sunflower heads..... Maybe --just leave them along the ground by the fence.....????
ReplyDeleteI will never forget how beautiful your sunflowers were this year... Can't wait to see them next year.
Hugs,
Betsy
Who knew mother nature could store them for the winter for you. I would have thought they would rot outside all winter!
ReplyDeleteOh dear Diane......I never knew that about them, I would have done the same!! You can always get a bucket and put chicken wire across the top and let the flowers hang in the bucket to dry......
ReplyDeleteThey were spectacular weren't they!!!
Hugs,
Mags
Rats!!! I would have done the same thing Diane. Well, now I know something that I didn't know before. The only reason I have never planted sunflowers before, is that I always think of it too late for them to grow here. Maybe next year, if you think about it, you could leave me a reminder? I will try to remind you to remind me.LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved your previous post. Yes, it is ALL of that!
hugs to you...
Maybe you can stick them in a container with rocks or sand in it (upright). xobean
