To me Halloween is a time for celebrating autumn and the changing seasons. With the darkness coming earlier and earlier it's a little spooky when I take a walk near dark. The sound of a cat rustling in the leaves, a branch not quite where it's supposed to be and even the moon looks a little eerier. It hearkens back to the times when Mother would help us make gypsy costumes and we could wear MAKEUP and some of her old jewelry. When you never knew who would answer the door when you knocked, and shadows flitted around the streets. It's fun. Sometimes we just need to have fun. Diane
Halloween is a time for fun!
ReplyDeleteCrunchy leaves...I love 'em...I saw some kids making a pile the other day, but he was using a leaf blower...I thought to myself, NO Fair! You gotta do it the old fashioned way to count!
My Mom could not afford to costume us like the modern Moms do. We always made up our own...gypsy as you said...or ghost or hobo...fun times!!
Hi Diane, I always loved Halloween also ---and so did my 3 sons. That was back in the day when Trick or Treating was SAFE... Times have changed, haven't they????
ReplyDeleteLove your writing in your journal... SO creative.

What a lovely blog! I'm glad I stumbled across it! I also have fond memories of Halloweens past.
ReplyDeleteAm I getting old if I say they were 'the good old days?' :o)

I just so don't like being scared... period. But I always loved dressing up and going Trick or Treating and it was always so much fun to put on our plastic Cinderella masks and trick our mom. She NEVER knew it was us! ;c)
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and the idea of Fall....the pumpkins and the falling leaves and the thought that the old house may be haunted!!! There was always one old house that seemed to be or at least one poor old woman who everyone thought was a witch...kind of makes me feel bad but I was still too scared to check it out!!!
