The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is going on this week. Sturgis is 217 miles from here and there are motorcycles everywhere you look. A lot of the bikers ride out of Sturgis and come here and tour around this area. It's hard to tell the people who're heading to Sturgis from the wannabees who live here and drag their bikes out, put on black tee shirts, black scarves on their heads and race around pretending they are. Occasionally you can tell - some older fellow in his Bermuda shorts and white socks with his suspenders is a dead giveaway - I don't think he's going to Sturgis!
Every year that tiny town fills up with bikers completely taking it over. This year I just checked and the count is almost 500,000. The population for the entire state is 756,000. It's kind of fun to think about but you won't find Leonard and I there (not with his suspenders!) It's a big bad party, the women who go do NOT look like the ladies in the picture here. That would be more like you and me. Diane

We saw a lot of bikers on all of our road trips this summer. Always take a ride with my cousin and her husband. I tried to drive a scooter once but almost ran into a tree. Biking is definitely not for me, but being a passenger on a nice comfy big bike is nice! Best wishes for your weekend. :) Tammy
Hi Diane, Looks like a place I would NOT want to go to during their Bike Rally.... When we go to Myrtle Beach in May, they have Bike Weeks there ---and there are motorcycles ALL over the place. It's scary trying to drive with them all around....
NO---I may want to go to Sturgis sometime --but not when the motorcycles are there... You two are smart to stay HOME.
Cute picture though.
Hugs,
Betsy
Yeah I think I'd avoid that party!
Diane, that is so funny, my hubby rides a bike but we have never wanted to go to Sturgis.....I have seen the people that go, no thanks.....
Happy weekend!

Thanks for the warning - If I'm ever in that part of the world I'll avoid this particular celebration!
I think that is one party that I would avoid as well! There are several rallies in the state here and usually, we try to avoid them if possible.

We had the Hoka Hey this summer in Homer but I really did'nt notice that many more than normal, Wow that alot of people, where do they all sleep!
Love the picture!
Wow Diane, that must be quite the sight! Like you, I'd steer clear! Have a great weekend!
Somehow Sturgis does not have appeal to me,at least not during the bikers time.
I am more of a laid back person.
Have a great weekend.
Blessings,Ruth
