A visit to my neighbor's garden today and I see that these wonderful flowers are blooming in abundance. The old fashioned or common names are so intriguing. This one's Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate or Love Lies Bleeding. Other names of some of the dear old flowers - Hearts ease, Johnny Jump-Ups, Love In A Mist, Butter and Eggs - the list goes on. It would be great to know the botanical names but I prefer the ones that were handed down over the years. Diane
Those old fashioned name have far more charm to them than any botanical name could.I think they are more descriptive as well.

I wonder who came up with butter and eggs...thats too funny!!
ReplyDeleteHalf the time I can't pronounce the botanical names! I much prefer the more romantic names!
ReplyDeleteHow cute.... I've never heard of "Kiss Me over the Garden Gate".... What a neat name. I too love the old names... When people use the technical names, I usually just ignore them!!!!! Most of the time, I can't even pronounce them... ha.... I love it when they name our Roses: Mr. Lincoln, Dolly Parton, Veterans Honor, Peace, etc.... Those are the kind of names I love...
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Diane...Great picture also!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
