July 4th.....................

Happy Independence Day to you and to all it stands for including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and I might add the right to keep and bear arms.  This nettles some people but it's pretty clear - without that right we would not be citizens who call this country our own, we would be subjects or slaves or not even have a United States of America.  Independence Day , I hate to tell people, is not about hotdogs and ear busting  fireworks and getting drunk.  It's about a young country building what our founding fathers hoped they were forming.  I think we should be very proud of what we have made and I think we should guard it with our very life.

On this day exactly 100 years ago, July 3, Walter Sullivan and Jennie Yates, my grandparents,  were married.  I think there was some significance to this.  They loved this country and they loved the 4th of July and that's why they chose it.  You probably couldn't get married on the 4th because everything was closed.  So chose this day which was almost the 4th.  My daughter Amanda and her husband, Gregg were married on the 4th and he proposed to her at the top of the Empire State Building on the 4th.  My dad and his brother went to fight in WW2 and my brother went to Vietnam.  I will always love July 4th and I will always defend our guns.                                    Diane

There's quite a big difference between a gun and an assault rifle. If there must be guns for regular citizens, then the selection should be limited and there should still be background checks and regulation. Having a gun for protection or hunting is one thing, but when someone all of a sudden buys something completely out of character, then that should be a red flag. No one needs a gun that has the capability of killing dozens of people within minutes.
