Fragile.................

The thermometer dipped down to 29 degrees last night, maybe that's why I found this beautiful Green Darner dragonfly in the driveway upside down.

It was so beautiful, the wingspan was as wide as my outstretched fingers and the wings were spun gold.

It seemed lifeless, so I picked it up and put it in the sun on some bricks to warm up.  Then I fussed about it all day.  It seemed to move from where it was. I once read that dragonflies spend more time in water than in the air so I very carefully carried it to the creek.  I stood on the bridge and held it above the water and it fluttered it's wings and as the wind caught it it fluttered and then hit the water and sailed down the creek. With a feeling of loss I walked away not knowing it's fate.  But then what else could I have done?  I didn't want to keep it under glass, I wanted it to return to it's place where it began.

What a lovely story. :) I love things like that, a lot. I always feel sorry for bees that do not make it back to the hive. We pick them up and put them in the sun to warm up. You're a kindred spirit. Kit
