Sandhill Cranes..................

We spotted these Sandhill Cranes outside of town this last weekend.  They were in a stubble field and almost blended in with the background.

We've seen them occasionally around here but it is exciting.  I think they're migrating through.  I can only imagine how amazing it would be to see masses of them like in Nebraska.

I'm sorry the quality of these shots isn't great.       Diane

They are my favorites!!!! Seeing them come back in spring (May) is exciting and watching them fly away south in huge "v"s high high in the sky is thrilling. Sometimes they are flying so high you can only hear them. They are magical creatures.

Isn't it awesome when you see these! We never saw them here until a few years ago. They always are an attraction to me. Love, Patsy

What beautiful, exotic looking birds. Most of our English birds are small ones, but those are a wonderful sight! Have a happy weekend Diane, Jane xxx

That is awesome! Actually, I think your shot is beautiful. They are so camouflage. I'm surprised you saw them. Then again, no I'm not.

Diane, there is a fabulous article in this month's Smithsonian magazine on sandhill cranes. You can just google Smithsonian sandhill cranes and it will come up. The pictures in this article are astounding as are your pictures of the ones you saw in the field.
They are fabulous creatures.
