Not just any school.................

This is Coffeen School, home of the Coffeen Cougars.  This is the school where my daughters learned reading, friendship, math, and marbles.   I got to go to 15 Christmas concerts there.
My oldest daughter, Catherine, started first grade here the first year the school was opened.

It was the ultimate school - all the latest in good teaching, learning pods that could be moved around or opened up, and underground playground for inclement days.  When Bean started school they called me the day before and said they were going to have to send her to another school across town because they were getting overcrowded here.  "No, she stays in Coffeen." I said.  I had already taught her how to walk to school, meet the bus - not at some other school but here.  She stayed.
This is the north forty where the kids had lots of room to run and play and get good sunshine.

They're tearing it down now to put in a "much better school".  I can't even drive by that way - it hurts too bad.                     Diane

Sometimes I feel like saying 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.
It seems things get torn down just because. At least you have some great memories from here.

Oh no! I would feel the same way if they wanted to tear down my daughter's school. What a shame. :( Kit

We went to drive by Phil's old school on our trip and they had done the same thing....it is sad!

Aww, why do they always do that.....everything always has to be new....sometimes I wish you could save a school just for the memories! I understand your hurt.

Sometimes it just seems that no one can be happy with what they have, or preserve the past. Progress is not always a step forward. Hugs and blessings, Tammy

I know the feeling Diane, a Menard's now stands where my old school once was. It's sad.

I know . . . so many memories (good and bad) were made in the years spent there. I suppose the one thing in life we can expect is change. Love you!!! Bean

I hear you! One of my grade schools was torn down over 20 years ago, and I still miss it!
