What Were You Doing?

September 11, 2001 -   What were you doing that day?  How did you hear about it?

Leonard was watching GMA and I was washing my face when he said "A plane hit a building in New York".  Then as we watched the horrible events unfold, like everyone else, were worried, wondering what was going on, what does this mean for our country.  I hope we prayed, I can't remember.

We had our store then, very few customers, most of them were just like me - almost zombies, in shock.  I remember talking to my own mother several times that day. On and off through the day my girls called me or I called them, we tried to be connected, to hold hands across the miles.   I love that we stayed together that day and tried to be there for each other.

The world has changed so much in ten years, our lives have changed.  They would have changed anyway but it makes me wonder what it would be like to be back today - ten years ago before all of this happened.  What about you?

I'm sure that each of us remembers where we were and what we were doing.
That day changed life in the free world forever. I worry that instead of focusing on staying free in the face of terror we have allowed ourselves to give up freedoms, thinking that is the way to stay safe.
May those innocents who lost their lives rest in peace, and may eternal light shine upon them.

I heard about it in a restaurant, while having coffee. The rest of the day was spent glued to the TV and praying for those who were most closely involved.A day I will never forget.

I had just gotten to work when a co-workers daughter called him to tell him that a plane had hit the first tower. Of course we thought it was an accident until the second plane hit the second tower. I will never forget any of it.
