Enjoying the Garden

As the days get shorter I enjoy the flowers more and more, remembering the cold winds and snow of winter.  Each day with the flowers is precious.  I had never grown sedum before but after some of you bloggers talking about it, I planted this plant last year.  This year it's been beautiful, and always has some kind of visitors, bees, wasps, butterflies.
I built this arch this summer to hold a climbing rose, it's a little spindly, hope it lasts a while.

This little center garden has been really fun this year.  The white petunias that you see were volunteers, and I thought that big stuff was some hollyhocks that had planted themselves there.  Now I'm thinking they aren't hollyhocks but some kind of squash!
Ferns are growing in some of the shadier spots.
This new little butterfly bush has kept me watching it all summer.  I couldn't wait to see what it was going to look like, it didn't disappoint.
And the zinnias are outdoing themselves in my little cutting garden.  The sunflower
is the only one this year, it came up by itself - maybe it will leave a
few seeds to start some more.  I planted hollyhocks in that corner
where it is, the seeds were given to me by a friend.
How does your garden grow?  Diane

Oh your butterfly bush is so lovely. My flowers are still going strong but struggling with the heat lately. Since I went back to work, I tend to collapse inside with a book instead of watering. Bad girl. :) Kit

Ours is coming into its own as Indian Summer settles over the Island. I have a bag of hollyhock seeds from a friend. Thanks for the reminder to get them into the ground.

Mine didn't grow too good this summer Diane, it was so hot, muggy and dry. Next year will be better! Whenever I see zinnias, I can smell them. Mom had long flower beds along the side yard that had every color imaginable. They were also one of my Grandpa's favorites. Thanks for the awesome memory!

Your garden is lovely Diane. I've been thinking about building some sort of arch over our balcony area so that we can have a bit of shade. There's an Indian Jasmine plant that the guy at the nursery told us would climb like a vine so I would use it cover the arch. Problem is the heat and the dust. After I spent hours planting today, some of the plants just looked so forlorn. I hope it is just the shock of being repotted. I'll see how they look tomorrow morning and then decide if they need to find a different spot for now. Hope you are having a great day. Best wishes, Tammy
