Grandpa

This would have been Grandpa's birthday - a man who was a precious influence in my life when I was a child.  I don't know who I would be if it hadn't been for him and Grandma.  I always knew I was safe and loved when I was with them.  Grandpa always encouraged the artist in me by seeing that I had paper and pencils and pencil boxes.

In this picture I'm "helping" him down by the beehives.  He kept bees so I always had my fill of honey.  Once my mother looked out the window to see me pushing the bees in and out of the hive like it was a little garage.  She turned white and ran outside to stop me.  Grandpa said "Just leave her alone, don't scare her, she'll be allright." And I was, the bees never bothered me.  Maybe I smelled like honey from eating so much!  Special memories of a very special Grandpa.                         Diane

Hi Diane, You are so lucky to have had such wonderful grandparents. All of mine were dead before I was born... So--I missed out on that... Makes me sad... BUT--I'm so happy for you and the memories you have. Love that old picture.
Hugs
Betsy

Such sweet memories. I am a wee bit envious, having no pleasant memories of a grandfather. It's something I wished for when I was a child.

What a lovely tribute to your grandfather and such a precious picture. You're such a cute little blonde girl. I cannot imagine you pushing the bees around like that, and it's a good thing your grandpa was wise about it.
I just posted about my little two-year-old grandaughter. What a surprise to find we shared the same theme tonight. You are just adoreable. Thanks for verifying how important grandparents are in kids lives.

My Pappaw died before I was born and my Grandfather died when I was about 2. I do have a picture of me on his lap when he was in the hospital. You are fortunate to have such wonderful memories of your Grandpa. Do you still eat lots of honey? Have a happy day. Tammy
