Chickens

Chickens are coming back. I'm seeing more and more
articles about raising chickens - in your back yard, in your house!  I know if I raised
chickens they would all be pets, all have names and nobody would be eaten.
So what would be the use of having them?
Grasshoppers!  That's why.  I was talking to a lady the other day at
the eye doctors and she said she keeps chickens and never
has a grasshopper problem.  She said it's the funniest thing to watch them
chasing a grasshopper down.  We've had some years where we've had
a nasty grasshopper problem, they eat everything - even the paint on
your porch.  I guess, though, I'll settle for the wild turkeys
that roam our neighborhood.  Maybe they catch grasshoppers, too!

I'm with you Diane, my chickens will all have names, and never be on the dinner table. We start their coop if the weather ever breaks! I can't wait til they come home! Hope the turkeys help you out, grasshoppers can be a pain!

Hmmmm----I had no idea that chickens ate grasshoppers.. BUT---that wouldn't be a good reason to have them I guess.... Like you said, let the wild turkeys eat the grasshoppers... ha ha

We don't have too many grasshoppers here ---nor chickens for that matter. ha

Hugs,
Betsy

I like chickens, but on my plate, right beside the mashed potatoes. We had hundreds of chickens when I was growing up,so I've had my fill of the live ones. The babies are very cute.

I just want a chicken coop without the chickens....they are cute on farms though but up here they attract the bears!
