Goodbye to the Beads

Mother gave up her beads.  Her arms and hands don't work well enough to work with them anymore.
When she made the decision she told the people at the care center and they all came in and took them away.  They turned them over to a consignment store and turned them into money for Mother.
A few years ago I took a picture of some of them.  The way they were arranged (or not arranged) struck me and I'm glad I got the shot.  Now we can always remember something that Mother enjoyed for a long time.  I think all of the female members of the family and all of her friends have many, many necklaces that she made.

She's doing well.  Her body goes downhill but she's still sharp as a tack and she can understand everything as long as she can hear.  She's been in the care center four years now and they're so good to her there, we're so fortunate to have her in a place of that calibre.        Diane

What a blessing to have your mother. Also to have a good place for her to live. Hope your week is great!

You look so much like your Mom, Diane... There's definitely a resemblance... Both of you have such a beautiful smile....

Glad she is doing so well. She seems happy even if she can't make her beads any longer... Glad all of her supplies could be passed on so that others can enjoy that wonderful hobby.
Hugs,
Betsy

She is a sweetheart, how precious it must be to have one of her necklaces! You really did get a great shot of all the beads.....she did have quite the collection, it looks so neat all those jars lined up!!!
It is nice that it was her decision to give them up, at least it was her choice.
There are times when I feel bad because my Mom's sewing never was unpacked when they moved and somehow I think that was harder on her then the move into the care facility.....she didn't or wasn't able to sew but it comforted her to see her sewing....
I am so happy that they take great care of your Mom!
Hugs,
Mags

I am so glad you got the picture of the jars of beads too Diane. That will always be a sweet memory whenever you take it out and look at it.
Your mother is beautiful! I can see where you got your beauty. Speaking of beauty...I LOVE that profile picture of you...yes, I know...I already told you that, but can you ever really hear it enough? That green vest is so 'your color'!!! And I adore your glasses too.

I see you have been making lovely tags. I laughed when you said someone needs to stop you. Do you do that too...where you start making something and can't seem to quit? I do it with almost anything I handmake. If I start sewing pillows, I make pillows till they are coming out our ears. If I start making rosettes it's the same thing. Right now I'm making calenders out of the garden pics this year and giving them as gifts to my mom and kids. I seriously can't stop! Help!!!

I'm freezin' my tushy off over here...how 'bout you? It's supposed to be warmer tomorrow though.

hugs to you from the frigid Idaho mountains.

How wonderful to have some of her necklaces! My parents are in their mid-80s now, and we were able to visit and get lots of hugs at Thanksgiving.
Hope all is happy & cozy at your house, Diane.
Hugs,
Zuzu

What an adorable picture of Grandma! And I DO love the photo of the beads. It's sad she had to give it up, it must be really boring in there. I love my necklace she gave me when we went. xobean

I know it must have been bittersweet for her to give them up, but just think of how many necklaces have been made with her beautiful bounty!
