Grasshoppers

A slight whisper precedes me as I walk Rascal along the weeds by the creek. Some get disoriented and jump where they didn't intend to go and look slightly surprised to be there.  They hide from me behind the stem of a grass, if I walk to one side to look at him he slides on around further behind the stem.  They'd be comical if they weren't so destructive.
Once I was at the airport waiting for someone to come in on a plane.  As you looked across the tarmack you could
see it moving like a heat wave but it was grasshoppers - billions of them - and they were all going in the same direction.

May dad would tell my sister and I to get some grasshoppers so we could go to the mountains.  Jennie and I would get
up early in the morning and go to our favorite place to catch them.  There in the cool morning they hadn't "thawed" out yet and we could just pick them off the grasses.

Neat picture, Diane. I seldom see grasshoppers here... We probably have them around --but probably not too many... They are pretty little guys ---but as you said, they can be destructive for sure.....

Sounds like you and Rascal had a nice walk...

Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy

I remember when we were kids here, grasshoppers were everywhere, every size and color imaginable. I don't see them as often anymore, some, but not like it used to be. I just remember their sticky legs!

I haven't seen grasshoppers in any number since we lived on the prairies. I remember the horrible look of the front of the car after a trip of any duration.
I can just imagine two little girls picking the grasshoppers off the plants in anticipation of a trip to the mountains.

Oooooo... LOVE your new header Diane! SO pretty!

I've not seen that many of them either, though I can't even imagine the sight of millions of them. Oh my.
