It Never Hurts to Ask

As I was driving down the street I noticed this man painting his fence.  "Do you mind if I take your picture?" I asked.  He turned to face me, "Well what do you want MY picture for?" he asked.  I explained to him that I have a blog as well as a photoblog and he just looked like a very good subject and I just like the look of the fence, his bench, even the color of his clothes.  "You just go ahead and take as many as you want, I'm just going to go ahead and paint", he said.  Then he told me how much he was enjoying fixing up their home, and how it's going to keep him busy the rest of his life, but that's O.K., he loves doing it.  He was a very nice person and the next day I brought a copy to him and his wife and we chatted like magpies.  What a lovely experience - all because I asked!!

Your amazinng, My brother and sister-law if they saw someone with a truckload they would ask "are you going to the dump with all that" they always got a friendly response in fact the mirror over my bed came from one of these friendly stops.
I stopped once at a house because for years they had a little boat covered in weeds so I got the courage to go ask, they were standing in the yard, never attempt this when the people are LOOPED...BUT theres a spot I'd like to stop and take a picture of I'll have to try again!!

Love your subject!

I was talking with Hubby this morning. I said that after being a student, and a mom, and an employee - retirement is a challenge. What to do, what to do?
Then I said that what seems most important is to just be & connect with others.

This is exactly what you have done, and I am beaming all over from reading & seeing your post, Diane. Beautiful!

It really is an interesting photo - my first thought was 'Tom Sawyer' and then I recognized the age of the subject......really good photo all the way 'round.
Taking the time 'to ask' or to pause and comment or chat can open up a new world - one never knows. So many of us miss out on a lot because we are in too much of a hurry to stop.
