In Just A Few Short Years

One of my daughters and I were talking the other day about when we were new to the computer and how it was then - DOS shell, early AOL, and taking forever for a picture to come up on the monitor.  It cost me $1.00 every time I went online because there was no local server and we had to go to Billings, Montana for one.  I was working at a church in the early 1990's and had to tell DOS shell every command to get anywhere in the computer, I must have called the smarter person who knew those things 10 times a day! That's really funny now but when you realize that it's only been a few short years that we've become where we are today with technology.  It's a wild and wonderful race and it's hard telling where we're going!  One thing I know for sure - I'm so glad that we all got in the same rocket on the trip.   Diane

Oh how I remember the DOS commands, Diane... That's when I first learned the computer... And YES---we have come a long, long way. And --as you say, wonder where we are going from here. Sometimes, I think we are moving too fast... As soon as I learn something ---it changes to something new!!!! ha

Great post, Diane.... Made me remember how far I've come when it comes to computering....

I remember the early computing days well, pre internet, that is. I also remember that my first adventure into the Internet was via Web TV unit!

I remember initially being so leery of this thing called "the internet' because I didn't know how I felt about having that connection in my house. It was feeling like I was giving the world access to my life and computer. LOL... we had a 286/33 processor with dial-up and used to sit in awe of a CD that actually contained the entire Compton's Encyclopedia! How DID they do that?

Boy, have we come a long way baby.

I often think about this, Diane - isn't it incredible?
I've enjoyed all your posts, but just can't comment regularly as I'm at my son's place in Ontario and just nip in when the babies are napping.

I'm usually a bit behind when it comes to technology. With a little playing around, I can figure most things out. It all still boggles my mind, this internet and blogging thing. And how I can chat instantaneously with someone nearly 10,000 miles away. Absolutely amazing and magnificent. What would my life be like in Kuwait if I couldn't have contact with so many wonderful creative folks out there? Wishing you all the best, Tammy

Yes, they're a curse and a blessing. My two-yr-old monitor went blank. I have problems off and on with my computer. On my first computer I wiped everything out, reinstalled new drivers and software and added a memory stick. BUT, I don't know what I'd do without them!
