Added Bonus

Thistle was one of the flowers that grew in this nearly alpine area and butterflies covered them.  They seem to love the
thistle and they hung like flowers themselves.

I think if you enlarge this you might be able to see the many butterflies more clearly.

Diane, I first want to tell you how much I love your header. Just beautiful, all the pictures in are awesome.
I was so happy to read that you and your husband were able to make it back up to the 'special place' and get more pictures. My husband and I and Landon took a drive to the mountains Thurs. and saw a sign for a pioneer cemetary. I was able to get some pictures of the three graves that were there and enclosed by an old pole fence. It was a fun day.
I think the picture of the man painting the fence is amazing. How great that you happened upon him. And it sounds like you made a friend.

Wow Diane! That's quite a few butterflies, what a treat. We have a lot of thistle around the house, and I know it's a weed but it's too pretty to pull! So they're my flowers in my opinion!

Oh, how delightful Diane! So many butterflies!!! I tried to ID it on the Wyoming section of butterfliesandmoths.org and think they might be Mormon Fritillaries?

When we lived on a farm that was a job my Dad would make us do is cut all the thistle down. I hated it because they were always covered with bees, good times!
I wish I'd had my camera last night the cat was right behind a log watching this chipmunk eat his dinner the cat weighs over 30lbs but he still thinks he's a hunter.
