Fading Into History

Bino's Grocery had been run by the Mancini family for 55 years beginning with Albino Mancini and his wife and gradually handed down to the younger members of the family. I remember him, he was a picturesque gentleman who looked like Geppetto to me. I have to admit I didn't do my regular grocery shopping there but it was delightful - they had everything. Their produce was nice and the meat was superb. The local paper announced that it had been sold and turned into a pizza place. It's the last that was left from an era where we had 32 little neighborhood groceries. Sometimes passing history leaves you feeling kind of empty. Diane

That's kinda sad, Diane.... When I was younger, I didn't think much about losing things like this to 'progress'.... BUT--as I got older, I really didn't like seeing all of the changes. My hometown is like that... It's all changed and all of the local stores are gone. The chains have taken over (like Dollar General and Dairy Queen).... I hate it!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

Oh how sad, It seems like so many of our mom and pop places are going by the wayside...Your right empty is a good description.

Indeed.
There used to be a cinnamon bun shop in town - just buns, no tables, no coffee, just homemade buns to take away. One day it was there and the next day it was gone - replaced by a video rental place. Sometimes progress feels like a step backwards.

I know what you mean Diane, that's happened here and everytime one leaves, it's sad. I don't like always going to the supermarkets, especially the supercenters and it seems they've run all the Mom and Pops out of business. It's really sad.

I have to admit that I do most of my shopping in the big box stores, but,I still hate to see the little family places close down.I guess I may be partly at fault.

I have a lot of memories of Binos! Especially when he would "go on strike". What a cutie. I guess life moves on though doesn't it? I guess I was hoping one of the kids would keep it going. :(
