Home Truly Is Where The Heart Is

I won't lie. Sometimes when I'm driving through a new housing development, I imagine how wonderful it would be to live in a nice new house that smells brand new and has plenty of room. Everything is nice and neat and perfect, I've never lived in a house like that.

A little house has something wrong with it all the time, something needs to be repaired or replaced. There's never enough room. If something comes in, something has to go out. There is positively no more room for anything. I don't want small appliances and gadgets because there is no room for them. You could probably find room but I can't stand for things to be so crammed together.

But I love my little house, it holds my sweet husband. I love everything that he has done in our little house. He installed a porch light on the front porch, the first time in 100 years light shone on those steps. He installed new lighting in the bathroom and put new lights up for me along the sink - three times. He finally put up some garage sale lights there which I love and will leave there forever. He rewired the whole thing and put a skylight in the kitchen. Now light shines there where it hadn't shone for 100 years. He put an electrical outlet outside for me so I could have a lamp in a funny place. He built the new room on the back of the house completely himself (I was the gopher). I've done many things too, painting and wallpapering and building shelves and moving things around until they looked wonderful where they are. This is where I have my flowers and butterflies come and the same birds come back every year. What would they do if strangers lived here? This is the home where my little dog lives. This is the place he's happy to get back to. This is where our dogs and cats lived who we have lost. This is where our children come when they come home.

Even with all it's quirks I love my little house. This is the only house for me.

God bless you, Diane

Oh what a neat post, Diane. Sometimes we ALL want more than we have. That's just human!!!But then---what we have is so precious. Your house is gorgeous. I love your faceted front door glass.

Our house is small --but it's what we love. I wouldn't trade it for the world. WELL---maybe I would if I could have Shelley's log cabin--or Jen's.... ha ha ha

Hugs,
Betsy
