The Beautiful Past

Since the sun was out and just for fun today I drove around and took some pictures of the fine old homes in our area. On the main street leading to our house there are about two blocks with some exceptionally beautiful Victorians. This is one of them. I mentioned in an older post about losing one of them to fire. It was a terrible loss to the community. Mostly they have survived and been lovingly taken care of. They were winter homes of ranchers when ranching was a big industry here. The wife and children lived in town in the winter and returned to the ranch as soon as spring came. It would be so interesting to go back to those days and look around and see those people. I don't think I'd like to stay there long, though.

That's a beautiful house. Interesting to compare it with English houses of the same period. The house I live in is about 450 years old and has low ceilings and oak beams. It's not half-beamed, but the construction is wattle and daub, then brick-faced.

That house reminds me of one that Jake has on his model railroad layout. If I didn't have to do the cleaning myself I would like to live in such a house.Beautiful photo. Blessings,Ruth
