Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate

Don't you just love the common names of the flowers and herbs,
Hearts Ease
Morning Glory
Bleeding Heart
Forget Me Not
Lady's Ear Drops
Lady's Mantle
Butter and Eggs
Bee Balm
Angel's Trumpet
Love in a Mist
Bachelor's Buttons,
to name a few.
Here's one in the picture, Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate, also known as Love Lies Bleeding.
I love to call them by their old fashioned names, to me it brings with it simpler times and romance, times when people cultivated their flower garden and seemed to take the time to enjoy just the very look or scent of each bloom. Was it really that way? I don't know, it's just nice to think so. I think we all need a great big bouquet of Heart's Ease (violas) right now. God bless you, Diane

I love the old names as well. We have a bush here called the "sweet booby" because of its fragrant blossoms. In the old days, girls put the blossoms in their bras to serve as perfume.

That image is Love-Lies-a-Bleeding, which is a separate species from Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate (persicaria orientalis). Looks different.
