Bittersweet, Beautiful Day

(Enlarge for better detail)
As I mentioned in one of my previous posts my brother, sister in law and myself journeyed over the Big Horns and through the Wind River Canyon yesterday to see my sister, probably for the last time. The reason for the trip was sad but so important. Saying goodbye to her was excrutiating. We had a good time with her, though, all three of her siblings as well as my brother's wife, and my other sister's husband got to spend some quality time with her and laugh and tell old stories and tease each other just like normal. At one point, Jennie cracked us all up. We were saying how we didn't know how we turned out as well as we did and Jennie quipped, very quietly and slowly, "maybe we just think we are because we're measuring ourselves by each other!" Funny - and true.
It was a great trip over there, my eagle eyed brother spotted many deer and the small herd of elk not far from the road (photo)
I, however, was the one who spotted the young mountain lion running across the road some ways ahead of us! This is highly unusual and an incredible treat. We all three jumped out of the car hoping to catch a glimpse,(or better yet, a picture) of it but it was too late. After all, it is a cat and could have been watching us from any hole in the ground. But we got to see it very well as well as a little covey of chukkers (similar to Hungarian partridges) and they were all three sweet highlights to our day.
God bless you, Diane

How great that you all got to spend some good quality time with Jennie. I know she was so glad to see all of you. Goodbyes are so difficult, and I shall continue to keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers Diane.

I am really glad you and your family got to spend that special time together. It is so important to do that and spend those last quality moments trying to laugh and remembering all the good times.
Stopping to be with nature on the way back was probably a nice way to end your journey...something I am desperately missing right now.
A great photo of the deer and elk.
Jill.
